Former Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move is significant for both Kupp and the Seahawks as it helps address gaps in their receiver lineup after parting ways with key players like Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.
Kupp, now 31 years old, grew up in Yakima, Washington, about 140 miles from Seattle. He played college football at Eastern Washington before being drafted by the Rams in 2017. Just this week, he was released by Los Angeles after they couldn’t find a trade partner.
This addition comes amid major changes for the Seahawks. The team recently traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and signed Sam Darnold as his replacement. With Kupp now onboard, he joins Jaxon Smith-Njigba—who racked up 1,130 yards in his second season—and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a recent signing as well.
Kupp’s NFL career has been impressive. He burst onto the scene as a rookie with 62 receptions and has consistently performed at a high level since. His peak was in 2021 when he won the receiving triple crown, leading the league in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and touchdowns (16). He capped that season by being named MVP of Super Bowl LVI after making eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns in a win against the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, injuries have hampered his play in recent seasons. In the last three years, he has participated in just 33 games due to various physical setbacks. Last season, he played in 12 games, recording 67 catches, 710 receiving yards, and six touchdowns.
Despite his contributions, Kupp wanted to stay with the Rams, but they attempted to trade him due to his $20 million salary. The Seahawks stepping in shows their commitment to building a strong roster.
Kupp’s career stats are impressive: 634 receptions, 7,776 receiving yards, and 58 total touchdowns, with 57 coming from receptions. His journey now continues back home in Seattle, and fans are eager to see how he fits into the Seahawks’ new offensive strategy.
