Morris Mayor Chris Brown was recently selected for the National League of Cities’ 2025 Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy committee. This is an important role that he will hold for one year.
In this position, Mayor Brown will help shape policies on key issues like sustainability, climate change, community resilience, and water management. His work will benefit not just Morris, but also cities across the nation.
NLC President Steve Patterson shared the news of Brown’s appointment. Mayor Brown expressed appreciation for the opportunity, saying that being part of this committee connects him with some of the best leaders in the country. This collaboration allows for sharing ideas and strategies that can be applied to local challenges.
Through his role, Brown will advocate for the needs of communities like Morris at the federal level. According to Patterson, these advocacy committees are essential for ensuring that the voices of America’s 19,000 cities, towns, and villages are heard in Washington. He looks forward to working with Mayor Brown and supporting his efforts on the committee.
The committee is already being guided by experienced leaders, including Chair Katrina Thompson from Broadview, and Vice Chairs Mila Besich from Superior, Arizona, and Abbie Kamin from Houston, Texas. Together, they aim to strengthen the cooperation between local officials and federal leaders on environmental issues.
