Niagara County has a new Public Health Director, Dr. Fauzia Khan. She was introduced by Legislature Chairman Becky Wydysh at a recent meeting. Dr. Khan takes over from Dan Stapleton, who retired after 28 years in the role.
Dr. Khan brings over twenty years of public health experience, both locally and around the world. Her hiring followed a thorough search by the Niagara County Board of Health, which aimed to find the right person for the job.
Wydysh expressed excitement about Dr. Khan’s arrival, highlighting her extensive background. “The Niagara County Department of Health affects everyone. We believe Dr. Khan is the right leader for us,” she said.
Dr. Khan starts her new role as the department moves into a modern facility at 55 Stevens Street in Lockport. This move is a significant step forward, as the department transitions from its former location on Upper Mountain Road.
“This is a thrilling time to join the department,” Dr. Khan remarked. She acknowledges the solid foundation laid by Stapleton and is eager to build on it.
The department is planning an open house next month, where Dr. Khan can meet community members. She anticipates offering various clinics and services at the new location, which will better serve the needs of residents.
