Peddapalli: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is celebrating a significant step forward. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted preliminary environmental clearance for its Ramagundam Coal Mine Project. This marks an important milestone in SCCL’s journey.
SCCL had been waiting for this approval for quite some time, and the official documents are expected soon. This success reflects the hard work of SCCL’s Chairman, Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti, and his dedicated team.
The Ramagundam Coal Mine Project is designed to achieve an impressive annual coal production of 21 million tonnes. This initiative aims to replace the declining output from older mines and tap into 314.98 million tonnes of recoverable coal reserves. It includes both open-pit and underground mining operations.
The coal produced will mainly supply NTPC Ramagundam and other industries that rely on coal. The project also looks to recover coal reserves from the GDK-10 incline mine and the soon-to-be-closed Vakilpalli underground mine, transforming these into open-pit sites for easier extraction.
This integrated project combines multiple mining areas, enhancing efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. By making the most of existing approvals, SCCL aims to ensure smooth operations with limited additional costs.
Experts believe this project could breathe new life into the Ramagundam region, extending its operational lifespan by another 25 years. “This is a forward-thinking approach to sustainable mining,” says Dr. Jyoti. “It demonstrates our commitment to balancing production needs with environmental responsibilities.”
