Clyde Hydrogen Systems is set to showcase its innovative electrolyser technology outside the lab for the first time. This is part of a new partnership with PlusZero, a Scottish green hydrogen producer.
Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Clyde and PlusZero will work together to deploy a commercial demonstrator electrolyser. This system will be tested for a minimum of six months to see how it performs in real-world conditions.
PlusZero is also planning to buy an initial 10MW of electrolyser capacity from Clyde Hydrogen.
“We’re excited to support this advanced Scottish technology,” said David Amos, Founder and Managing Director of PlusZero. “Clyde Hydrogen’s electrolyser promises better cost efficiency and flexibility in production.”
Clyde Hydrogen has created a unique type of electrolysis that produces hydrogen and oxygen separately and at different times or rates. This method enhances safety and efficiency, particularly when using renewable energy. It can also generate high-pressure outputs without needing mechanical compression, making it scalable and cost-effective.
Recently, Clyde demonstrated its technology in Glasgow, achieving hydrogen production at pressures over 100 bar.
Clyde Hydrogen is currently in the process of attracting up to £5 million in funding to accelerate the commercialization of its technology. The company aims to have a fully integrated pilot system by late 2025 and launch a commercial demonstrator in 2027.
CEO James Peck described PlusZero as the “ideal partner” for this project. He noted a significant technical breakthrough in their technology, and the agreement shows the strong potential and interest in their innovative solutions.
