The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is making headlines as the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) wraps up its trial runs. Developed by BEML using ICF technology, this semi-high-speed sleeper train promises to change long-distance travel in India.
During testing, the train underwent several performance checks. It was put through detailed Oscillation Trials and Emergency Braking Distance (EBD) tests at various speeds. These trials took place across three major railway zones: North Central, West Central, and Western Railway. A senior railway official confirmed to IndianExpress.com that the trial run was a success.
Now that the trials are complete, the focus shifts to the next steps. The train will return to BEML for some necessary adjustments based on the trial findings. Following these corrections, it will await final instructions from the Railway Board.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper reached a top speed of 180 km/h. Testing started in the Mahoba–Khajuraho area, moved through Sawai Madhopur–Kota–Nagda, and finished on the Ahmedabad–Mumbai route. These locations were chosen for their diverse conditions, allowing for a thorough assessment of the train’s performance.
Experts believe that this new train could significantly enhance rail travel comfort and efficiency in India. According to a recent survey by the Ministry of Railways, 72% of travelers prefer trains for long journeys due to their affordability and comfort.
