The Indian Ministry of Railways is rolling out exciting plans for 2026-27. They’re set to add more Vande Bharat trains, including sleeper and chair car versions, as well as new Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat services. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced these developments at a press conference.
Currently, 17,000 new coaches are being manufactured. The goal is to boost connectivity and safety while also enhancing freight services. Vaishnaw emphasized that the production of these trains and wagons is happening at an unprecedented pace.
In terms of funding, the Union Budget for 2026-27 has allocated a record ₹2,93,030 crore to the Ministry of Railways. This is the highest amount ever given to the railways. The focus will be on high-speed connectivity, safety, and freight services.
The new Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are also making waves. Following the introduction of 16-coach models, work is underway for a new 24-car sleeper rake, with plans to produce 50 of these at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.
Research indicates that the introduction of modern trains could boost passenger satisfaction. A recent survey showed that 85% of travelers prefer faster, more comfortable options like the Vande Bharat trains. This reflects a growing trend towards innovative transportation in India.
