Apple has launched the MacBook Neo, and it’s already creating buzz. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo offers insights into this new laptop priced at $599. He believes it will sell well, predicting between 4.5 to 5 million units in 2026.
Last June, Kuo hinted at specifics about the MacBook Neo, mentioning a 13-inch display and the A18 Pro processor. Now that the laptop is here, it features colors like silver, indigo, blush, and citrus, matching his forecast. After its release, Kuo adjusted his sales estimate, noting that about 2 to 2.5 million might sell in the first half of the year.
The assembly of the MacBook Neo is currently handled by Quanta, but Foxconn could join the process soon. Looking ahead, Luxshare might also compete for the assembly work in the future.
Another interesting point from Kuo is about a possible touchscreen feature for the next version of the Neo. Initially, it was expected to have a touch panel, especially since more than half of Chromebooks offer this feature. However, Kuo has reported that the Neo 2 might drop this idea. Instead, Apple may reserve a touchscreen for a higher-end model.
On a related note, Kuo confirmed that major updates are coming to the MacBook Pro and Air lines. According to him, the MacBook Pro could feature an OLED display by late 2026 or early 2027. Meanwhile, the MacBook Air might get an OLED upgrade around 2028 or 2029. These timelines reflect Apple’s long-term approach to product development.
To sum up, the MacBook Neo is making its mark as a budget-friendly option that still delivers quality. Despite some changes in expectations, Apple continues to innovate and expand its product lineup in exciting ways.
