Exclusive CinemaCon Footage: Tom Holland’s Peter Parker Uncovers Zendaya’s Unexpected New Love Interest in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Zendaya’s character, Michelle Jones-Watson, is set to have a new romance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it’s not as simple as just moving on. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, made a heartbreaking choice to erase himself from the memories of those he loves, Michelle has forgotten him completely. In a sneak peek shown at CinemaCon, Peter discovers Michelle making out with another guy at a party, and it hits hard.

Holland wasn’t physically at CinemaCon, but he introduced a clip via hologram. He noted, “Peter had to make a sacrifice,” and now viewers will see the fallout of that choice.

In the clip, Peter, who is now living a lonely life without his friends, follows his old buddy Ned to a bustling college party. There, Ned enthusiastically shares stories about Spider-Man, unaware that Peter is right there. He even speculates about who Spider-Man might be, making guesses about their classmates. It shows how much Spider-Man’s existence still impacts their lives, even if they don’t remember who he is.

Michelle makes a humorous comment about the number of guests at their party, joking that statistically, at least two must be sociopaths. This blend of humor and heart is what fans love about the series.

Peter introduces himself under the alias “Maynard” and awkwardly tries to connect with her, handing her flowers. She quips back, calling him a “friendly neighbor.” This light-hearted moment contrasts sharply with Peter’s internal struggles.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, released during the pandemic, was a massive success, grossing around $1.9 billion globally. Now, with Brand New Day set four years later, Peter fully embraces his role as a protector of New York, but the burden he carries intensifies. The film promises a physical evolution for Peter, linked to a new wave of crime threatening his city.

Zendaya and Holland return for this fourth installment, with Sadie Sink rumored to take on a significant new role. Directing is Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film releases on July 31, alongside another Marvel blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday.

Holland describes Brand New Day as the “most emotional Spider-Man we’ve ever made.” Moreover, the film’s trailer broke records, achieving over 1 billion views in just four days, a testament to the franchise’s undeniable popularity.
