Director Emma Tammi shared some insights with Variety about the future of the franchise. In the mid-credits scene, Springtrap, the notorious animatronic from “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3,” powers up, suggesting that the spirit of William Afton, played by Matthew Lillard, has returned.

“From the beginning, we aimed to include Afton in a third movie,” Tammi explained. “In this film, we see glimpses of him through his daughter Vanessa’s memories. By the end, his new form adds a thrilling twist to the storyline.”

The finale reveals a message from Henry Emily, played by Skeet Ulrich, to Mike (Josh Hutcherson). Henry warns Mike to stay away from the Marionette, which is now controlled by his deceased daughter’s spirit.

“This part was inspired by the game’s recordings,” Tammi noted. “We’re introducing Henry here, laying the groundwork for deeper exploration in a future film.”

Fans are eager to see both Ulrich and Lillard share the screen again. Their memorable roles in the 1996 hit “Scream” added to the excitement of their reunion in this series. Tammi shared, “The crew was thrilled when Ulrich’s name came up. Everyone felt it was going to be a fantastic reunion.”

Despite the chilling plot filled with animatronics, Tammi emphasizes that the human stories matter too. “The characters bring depth. Their stories are as critical as the lore of the animatronics. We want to keep that balance moving forward.”

In a recent survey, over 75% of movie-goers expressed interest in more character-driven stories in horror films. This trend shows that audiences crave relatable connections even in thrilling narratives.
