Bandai Namco Entertainment thrilled fans at the 2025 Game Awards by announcing the latest chapter of the “Ace Combat” series: “Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.” This new game picks up after “Ace Combat 7” and is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam.
The CEO of Bandai Namco Entertainment, Nao Udagawa, shared exciting details about the game. She emphasized that they have focused heavily on the graphics. “The clouds and sky look amazing! We’ve really enhanced the visual experience,” she noted. Udagawa explained that players can expect classic gameplay but with a deeper story. She described it as an epic movie experience that players will want to enjoy on a big screen.
The story of “Wings of Theve” unfolds in July 2029. Your character, a fighter pilot, finds themselves on a rescue boat after their homeland is torn apart by war. The aging aircraft carrier, Endurance, is the last refuge in a chaotic sea of conflict, where the military is in shambles and hope is waning. You must embody the name “Wings of Theve,” a figurehead meant to inspire those around you, even if that legend is built on lies. With the help of new comrades, you’ll fight to reclaim your homeland.
To spearhead the development of “Ace Combat 8,” Bandai Namco created a new studio called Bandai Namco Aces. This focused approach allows the team to concentrate solely on the “Ace Combat” franchise.
Udagawa has ambitious goals for development speed and quality. “We’re striving to bring our ideas to life more quickly without sacrificing quality,” she said. This forward-thinking attitude is crucial in the fast-paced gaming industry, where fans eagerly await the next big release.
In addition to “Ace Combat 8,” Udagawa also discussed the ongoing film adaptation of the “Elden Ring” game with A24. They have secured renowned industry names like Peter Rice, adding to the project’s credibility.
