Boulder City, Nev. – After a strong final round at Boulder Creek Golf Club, Grand Canyon University (GCU) finished in a tie for fifth place in The Clash at Boulder Creek. They had an impressive comeback, jumping from 16th to 5th place.

Initially, GCU struggled, shooting 14 over in the first round. However, they turned it around dramatically, posting an 11 under in the second round. This strong performance helped them rise to eighth place heading into the last round. They managed to maintain their momentum and finished the tournament with a total score of 7 over.

The Lopes’ second-round score tied for the lowest team score of the tournament, while their final round was the sixth-lowest.

Freshman Alexis Vakasiuola continued to impress. Building on her recent personal best in Hawaii, she scored 3 under for the tournament, tying for sixth overall. Vakasiuola had a solid final round, finishing even par and racking up five birdies, three of which came in a fantastic stretch on holes 8 to 11. With a total of 12 birdies throughout the tournament, she ranked tied for ninth most on the leaderboard.

Junior Lena Tremouille also had an inspiring performance. Overcoming a rough start, she shot 5 under in the second round and finished the tournament with a score of 1 under in her final 18. Tremouille’s consistency was highlighted by 14 pars and one eagle, tying her with Vakasiuola for a 6 under on par fives, showing her strength on those key holes.

Sophomore Allie Justiz made a climb up the ranks, tying for 38th with a total score of 4 over. She finished her final round with four birdies.

Freshmen Rosie Maguire and Clara Duerr finished tied for 65th and 88th, respectively, with a combined five birdies.

Junior Jess Haines had a total score of 5 over, placing her in a tie for 44th, while freshman Honor Johnson tied for 58th at 8 over. Johnson’s personal best of even par in the final round featured three birdies and an eagle.

As a team, GCU’s performance was impressive with six eagles, outpacing the next team by three. Their 43 birdies tied for eighth most, particularly excelling on par fives where they collectively shot 16 under, second best among all 18 teams.

Looking ahead, GCU will take a break for winter and resume play in the spring, kicking off on February 9 in Tucson at the Thunderbird Invitational. This shift to spring play could provide new opportunities for growth as they prepare for upcoming challenges in the season.
