On Sunday, January 26, at 2 p.m., he will present “Rowdy & Reverent,” a lively slideshow filled with cultural insights at the Nevada Theatre, a historic venue itself.
Long before the gold rush made the Yuba and Bear Rivers famous, the indigenous Nisenan people were already creating art. This creative spirit has never left our area, and it continues to thrive today.
Hank will explore a wide range of artistic expressions in his presentation. He’ll touch on everything from sketching and dancing to photography and writing. The event will cover various music styles, including a cappella, classical, and even traditional folk instruments like fiddles and banjos. There’s something for everyone in the world of arts and entertainment.

Hank’s journey began in 1973 when he moved to Nevada County. He initially worked as a photojournalist and then shifted to archaeology in the Tahoe National Forest. Over the next 13 years, he deepened his understanding of the unique landscape and culture surrounding the Yuba-Bear River watersheds. His passion for this area shines through in his writing, photographs, and popular interpretive hikes.
Hank believes there are always new layers to uncover in his chosen habitat. He combines elements of natural history, human stories, geography, and art to create a unique perspective on the world around him.
