A Healing Hand for Borno
Borno State, still healing from years of conflict, faced another tragedy when the Alau Dam collapsed on December 10. The devastating flood claimed about 150 lives and displaced over 70% of the local population. With Maiduguri still struggling, the community was desperate for assistance.
When Seyi Tinubu, along with his brother Yinka and a small team, visited the state, they brought hope. They announced a donation of N500 million, along with essential items like 10,000 mosquito nets, blankets, mattresses, kettles, and wash kits. This aid also included vital medical supplies for around 50,000 individuals, such as medications for malaria, hypertension, and diabetes. His gesture surprised many, especially those who hadn’t seen such kindness from Nigeria’s first family.
A Friend of the Vulnerable
Seyi isn’t new to philanthropy. His commitment to helping others goes beyond this recent tragedy. During the Renewed Hope Concert in May 2023, he was seen distributing wheelchairs to people with disabilities. This heartwarming act brought joy to many and showed his dedication to making a difference.
Supporting Youth Through Sports
In 2025, Seyi organized the Seyi Tinubu Basketball Championship in Jos, where he donated N5 million in cash prizes. This event aimed to highlight the importance of youth, community, and sports in bringing people together across Nigeria.
A Focus on Healthcare
Seyi’s main focus has been on healthcare, particularly for mothers and children. He started the ‘Drug Banks for Indigent Patients in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatric Pharmacy Intervention’ in August 2024. This initiative aims to assist about 600,000 low-income patients every month across 60 hospitals in Nigeria.
At the launch of this program, it was noted that Nigeria has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. Seyi’s efforts intend to change this grim reality. He also awarded a N1 million scholarship to a deserving pediatric resident doctor at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, further supporting the medical community.
His team has visited various hospitals, like the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, providing scholarships and essential medications to those who cannot afford them.
Clearing Medical Bills
One touching story came from Lagos State, where a young sickle cell patient, Ifeoluwa Ore, couldn’t leave the hospital because of unpaid bills. Thanks to Seyi Tinubu’s support initiative, her medical costs were cleared, offering her family relief. She expressed her gratitude, stating it lifted a huge burden on them.
Seyi Tinubu’s compassion and commitment to helping others speak volumes about his character. His actions inspire hope and change in communities across Nigeria.
