Recently, the Centre for Management Communication (CenComm) at IIM Bangalore hosted a roundtable on climate change policies. This event, in partnership with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), focused on how local policies can make a real difference in the fight against climate change.
The discussion came after the release of CEE’s report, “Role of Sub-National Policies in Addressing the Climate Change Challenge – Learnings from Karnataka’s SAPCC.” The goal was to connect global climate commitments with local actions that can create change.
Judith Weinberger-Singh from the Hanns Seidel Foundation talked about how important international partnerships are for effective climate action. She shared examples from the European Union that highlight successful collaborations.
Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar, who chairs the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, emphasized that local governments play a crucial role in building climate resilience. He pointed out the need for strong water management systems and sustainable urban planning.
Adding a business perspective, Srinivasa C. K. from Toyota Kirloskar Motor discussed how the automotive industry can contribute to sustainability. He highlighted the importance of sustainable mobility in shaping a greener future.
The event attracted a diverse crowd, including IIM Bangalore students, professionals from various industries, and entrepreneurs focused on sustainability. It served as an excellent platform for sharing ideas and strategies to tackle climate change at the local level.
