Extraordinary Rescue: Indian Coast Guard Saves 3 Sri Lankans Off Dhanushkodi Coast

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu – June 28, 2025: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) recently rescued three Sri Lankan nationals stranded on a sandbar near Adam’s Bridge, close to Dhanushkodi. The group was left behind by an unidentified boat from Sri Lanka. They were found on the sandbar and quickly brought to safety by the ICG.

Officials reported that the three individuals had set off from Sri Lanka but ended up stranded. After their rescue, they were transferred to the Coastal Security Group Police, who are now investigating the situation to uncover the details surrounding their abandonment.

Advancements in Maritime Security

In another significant development, the ICG introduced the ‘Adamya,’ the first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) under the ambitious 08 FPV Project, at Goa Shipyard Limited. This vessel is a remarkable achievement for India’s defense sector, boasting over 60% indigenous content. It aligns with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) initiative, showcasing the success of the ‘Make in India’ program.

The ‘Adamya’ is equipped with state-of-the-art features:

• Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPPs)
• Indigenously developed gearboxes
• A 30mm CRN-91 gun and two 12.7mm remote-control guns
• Integrated Bridge System (IBS)
• Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS)
• Automated Power Management System (APMS)

These advancements will enhance the ICG’s capabilities in coastal surveillance, maritime law enforcement, and search-and-rescue operations.

Expanding Maritime Landscape

India’s maritime security has gained importance due to growing threats at sea. A recent report by the National Maritime Foundation highlights a 20% increase in maritime security incidents over the past three years. This trend underscores the need for improved naval assets like the ‘Adamya.’
