Organizers report that this year’s Fill the Dome campaign was a huge success. Students from high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools collected over 100,000 pounds of food and raised more than $45,000 to assist neighbors facing food insecurity.
With the demand for food higher than ever, the Metro Area Student Ambassadors organized a drive-through distribution event at the Fargodome. This event took place on Tuesday and directly helped the community.
During the event, 1,420 boxes of food were handed out to 475 families. Each family received three boxes of groceries, along with diapers and hygiene products as needed. Any extra food was donated to the Great Plains Food Bank, which distributes it to local pantries and schools.
“The heart and leadership these students show each year is truly remarkable,” said Kate Molbert, Interim CEO of the Great Plains Food Bank. “They are setting an example of what community care looks like. Their efforts bring real change to families in need.”
Since its inception, Fill the Dome has provided more than 2.8 million pounds of food and raised over $934,000. This initiative supports local food pantries, meal programs, and the Great Plains Food Bank’s mission to eliminate hunger.
According to a recent survey by Feeding America, 1 in 10 people in the U.S. face hunger. Local initiatives like Fill the Dome play a critical role in addressing this pressing issue. By bringing communities together, these efforts highlight the spirit of generosity and collaboration.
With events like this, it’s hopeful that we can continue to combat food insecurity in tangible ways.
