First Look: Matt Damon Transforms into Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s Epic ‘The Odyssey’

On President’s Day, fans got a sneak peek at Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, “The Odyssey.” Universal Pictures shared a photo featuring Matt Damon dressed as Odysseus, the legendary Greek hero who struggles for ten years to return home after the Trojan War.

Damon, along with other talented actors like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and more, was among the first cast members announced for the film. While details about character roles remain a mystery, many speculate that Holland might portray Odysseus’ son, Telemachus. The recent photo confirms Damon as the lead character.

“The Odyssey” was announced in December 2024 and marks Nolan’s 13th feature film. His previous film, “Oppenheimer,” was a box office hit and garnered critical acclaim, making this next project one of the most sought-after in Hollywood, attracting a star-studded cast eager to work with him again. Despite interest from his previous studio, Warner Bros., Nolan chose to partner with Universal for this project.

The film promises to be a grand adventure, employing new IMAX film technology to showcase Homer’s epic tale to a wider audience. It is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026. Filming will take place across several stunning locations, including Sicily, England, and Morocco. Many believe that some of the Sicilian islands were also part of Homer’s story, providing the perfect backdrop for such a monumental narrative.

As production approaches, excitement continues to build around this cinematic interpretation of a classic story, highlighting both its epic scale and rich historical detail.
