A Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputy, Devin Jaramillo, tragically lost his life after being shot with his own weapon. The incident occurred while he was responding to a minor vehicle crash on Southwest 128th Street.
Deputy Jaramillo, just 27 years old, got involved in a heated argument with one of the individuals involved in the crash. This conflict escalated into a physical fight. Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz explained that during the struggle, the suspect managed to take Jaramillo’s service weapon and used it against him.
Despite quick medical attention at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, Jaramillo succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Steven David Rustrian, later took his own life in his vehicle.
