In a strange twist in Florida, a man named Jaythan Gilder, 32, was caught trying to steal earrings worth over $769,000 just before police arrested him. Gilder had convinced employees at a Tiffany & Co. store that he was representing a professional athlete, which led them to show him various expensive jewelry pieces.
As he grabbed the earrings and fled the store, he didn’t just run away—he swallowed several of the stolen items. Police caught up with him later that day and witnessed him gulping down what they believed were the earrings.
The theft involved two pairs of earrings and a diamond ring, which he apparently dropped while escaping. Police even released an x-ray image showing an object lodged in a person’s abdomen, suggesting it was the stolen jewelry. However, they haven’t confirmed whether they were able to retrieve the items from Gilder.
This isn’t Gilder’s first offense. He allegedly robbed a Tiffany & Co. store in Texas back in 2022, and he has 48 outstanding warrants in Colorado. He now faces serious charges, including grand theft for taking goods valued at over $100,000. Like anyone charged with a crime, Gilder is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
