Maithili Thakur, a beloved folk singer, took her first step into politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Patna. She made this announcement with state president Dilip Jaiswal and joined alongside Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Bharat Bind.

Thakur found her voice at just 12 years old when she launched her YouTube channel. Singing Maithili and Bhojpuri songs, her passion attracted a massive audience. Today, she enjoys over 5.1 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 6.3 million followers on Instagram.

Her political debut coincided with the BJP’s announcement of its first candidate list for the Bihar Assembly Election, which included 71 names. Shortly after joining, Thakur also took a moment to connect with the media by performing a Chhath song.

In a recent Facebook post, BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde reflected on meeting Thakur, noting her family’s move from Bihar in 1995 during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s rule. He emphasized her wish to return, inspired by Bihar’s growth. Tawde expressed hope that Thakur could play a role in furthering the state’s development.

Thakur’s influence extends beyond music. The Election Commission of India previously designated her as the ‘State Icon’ of Bihar to encourage voter awareness. When discussing her potential candidacy in Jabalpur, she shared her deep connection to her hometown: “I believe starting my political journey here would be a great learning experience.”
