Food City is celebrating its dedicated volunteers through the Claude P. Varney Volunteer Recognition Program. This year, four district winners were honored for their remarkable contributions, and each received a $250 donation to a charity of their choice.
According to Steven C. Smith, president and CEO of Food City, “We are committed to the communities we serve.”
From these district winners, two divisional winners will soon be chosen. They will each receive a plaque and a $750 donation to their selected charity. Ultimately, one overall winner will earn a humanitarian award and a $1,250 contribution for their cause.
This program honors Claude P. Varney, a former president of Food City, who devoted 47 years to the company and was well-known for his charitable spirit.
The district winners this year are:
- Vickie Knight – Store #503 in Fort Payne, Alabama. Vickie volunteers at various organizations, including the Fyffe Senior Center, United Methodist Girls Home, Teen Challenge, and Youth with a Mission.
- Debbie Jackson – Store #230 in Chatsworth, Georgia. Debbie dedicates her time to the Tim Tebow Foundation and the Murray County Mobile Food Pantry.
- Gail Chapman – Store #727 in Chattanooga. Gail helps at the Ronald McDonald House, Dalewood Middle School, and New Covenant Church Grief Share.
- Randy Williams – Store #739 in Cleveland, Tennessee. Randy supports initiatives like Big Tom’s Thanksgiving Dinner for the needy, Cleveland High School wrestling, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and the Veterans of Foreign War 2598.
These individuals exemplify the spirit of giving and community service. Their hard work makes a real difference in people’s lives.
