In an open letter from the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, over 60 CEOs expressed their concerns after this incident. They mentioned their ongoing discussions with state leaders, including Governor Tim Walz and local officials, seeking solutions collaboratively.
The letter asks for immediate de-escalation of tensions but stops short of criticizing immigration enforcement or demanding their removal from the state—actions that several local officials, including the governor and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have taken.
This recent event was the third shooting connected to immigration operations in Minnesota this month. Reports have surfaced about immigration agents detaining children, arresting U.S. citizens, and entering homes without proper warrants. Video evidence has also contradicted claims by the Trump administration about the circumstances of the shooting.
The Chamber’s message emphasized the need for cooperation to bring stability back to communities in Minnesota. Many well-known companies, such as 3M, Best Buy, and Target, signed the letter. Notably, Target has faced scrutiny as immigration authorities have detained some of its employees during recent operations.
Meanwhile, tech leaders from Silicon Valley have been more vocal against the administration’s actions. For instance, Meta’s chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun, shared a powerful response to the shooting, labeling those responsible “Murderers.” Other tech figures, like Google Labs’ Kath Korevec, voiced that the situation was unacceptable, emphasizing the need to remember the events for future accountability.
