Houston Christian University’s Tough Start in Tournament Action
Houston Christian University had a challenging day at the University of Houston Tournament, facing two defeats. They lost 11-0 to Fairfield University in the morning and followed with a 7-0 defeat against the host Cougars in the afternoon.
This puts HCU at 0-3 for the season as they prepare for a rematch with Fairfield on Saturday morning.
Game 1 Highlights
HCU struggled to generate offense against Fairfield. The Stags took control with a strong nine-run inning in the fourth. Anna Paravati led them with three RBIs, while Delaney Wheildon and Martina Gutierrez each contributed two RBIs. Fairfield’s pitcher, Alyssa Weinberg, dominated, striking out 11 in five innings.
For HCU, Maddy Bailey was the sole bright spot, recording their only hit. Addy Prasifka took the loss on the mound after 3.1 innings.
Game 2 Overview
In the second game, HCU fell behind early. Ariel Redmond scored for UH, and the Cougars built their lead with two more runs in the next innings. Redmond’s solo homer in the third and a two-run single from Makenna Mitchell in the fifth sealed the game.
HCU managed to connect for four hits, with contributions from Karli Barba, Cara Pitman, Chloe Foster, and Tayden Alexander. Christin Haygood pitched 5.2 innings but couldn’t secure the win.
