A South Jersey author is taking the leap from a mobile bookstore to a permanent location in Bordentown, N.J. Charity Herndon, owner of “Austen’s Shelf,” is ready for this exciting new chapter.
Her journey began during a tough time in her life. “Last year, I faced a scary breast cancer scare,” she shared. Surprisingly, this health crisis sparked her creativity and led her to create a mobile bookstore. “I never thought that would turn into a full shop,” she said.
Herndon’s new store will have a “regency-inspired” look, similar to her traveling 98-square-foot trailer. Austen’s Shelf has gained popularity, allowing her to offer a broader selection of books—from thrillers to Regency romances, reflecting her love for Jane Austen.
