“Suits LA” is set to premiere on February 23. This comes shortly after the wildfires impacted parts of Pacific Palisades and Altadena. Originally, the show was going to film in Vancouver, but a tax credit from California allowed production to move to Los Angeles after filming the pilot there in August.
At the blue-carpet premiere on February 20, the cast and crew celebrated their new home. Star Stephen Amell, who plays attorney Ted Black, shared how much he enjoys coming to work at Universal Studios. He mentioned how he takes a longer route to appreciate the lot’s rich history.
Fellow star Bryan Greenberg reflected on his childhood visits to Universal and how fulfilling it feels to now work there. He said, “It’s like the coolest.”
Creator Aaron Korsh highlighted the emotional journey of filming in Los Angeles, especially after the recent industry strikes and wildfires. He aims to incorporate real L.A. locations, making the city feel like a character in the show. The characters’ law offices are set in Century City, and they even visit the famous Musso and Frank restaurant.
Korsh thinks about what location serves the scene best, which naturally leads to iconic places while also showcasing lesser-known spots that give a fresh perspective on L.A.
Amell’s character, Ted Black, focuses on criminal and entertainment law, representing real celebrities. The late John Amos will appear as himself, and comedian Patton Oswalt will play a heightened version of his persona. Oswalt noted that the show embraces the unique quirks of Los Angeles, saying, “There’s a lot of weirdness in this town that you do fall in love with.”
Josh McDermitt, who plays Stuart Lane, added that the series also highlights the genuine, caring people in L.A. Despite the city’s reputation, he praised the community’s strength, especially in response to the wildfires, calling the show a “love letter to Los Angeles.” Kevin Weisman, who plays a powerful film executive, mentioned the positive impact of the return to production on the local crew and industry workers.
Actor Azita Ghanizada, who portrays Roslyn, Black’s secretary, expressed hope that the show inspires others in the industry to champion tax credits for production in California. Korsh reassured fans of the original “Suits” that they won’t be disappointed with the new series. The storytelling and writing style will remain familiar, even with new characters and settings.
Kristen Hager, who plays Valerie Thompson, shared her admiration for the original series, calling it a “comfort show.” Lex Scott Davis, who joins the cast as Erica Rollins, binge-watched the first season just before her audition, quickly becoming a fan herself.
Characters from the original series will also make guest appearances, including Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter. Macht considered his return carefully but was ultimately inspired to support the new show and its fans.
Macht teased that viewers can expect flashbacks and a deep friendship between Harvey and Ted Black, adding an exciting layer to the storyline. Korsh hinted that more surprises are on the way, including a potential surprise guest character to excite fans.
