Former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman has passed away at 76. His family shared the news on Instagram, stating he died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Known for his deep faith and dedication to family, Foreman was not only a boxer but also an ordained minister and a successful businessman.

Foreman’s story began in Marshall, Texas, where he grew up in poverty. His family later moved to Houston, and it was here that he faced many challenges, including dropping out of junior high. He found purpose in the Job Corps, which was part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society program aimed at helping young Americans find careers. It was during this time that Foreman discovered boxing, channeling his anger and strength into the sport.

In 1968, Foreman claimed the heavyweight gold medal at the Olympics in Mexico City. He turned pro soon after and captured his first heavyweight title in 1973, defeating Joe Frazier. However, his reign ended in 1974 when he faced Muhammad Ali in the legendary "Rumble in the Jungle." This loss was a turning point for Foreman, leading him to take a break from the sport.

After retiring in 1977, he became an ordained minister. Ten years later, he returned to boxing to support a youth center he started in Texas. He achieved remarkable success, winning 24 matches in a row before losing to Evander Holyfield in 1991. Foreman made history in 1994 when, at age 45, he knocked out Michael Moorer to become the oldest heavyweight champion ever.
