Get Ready for an Epic Halftime Show: Madonna, Shakira, and BTS Set to Headline the 2026 World Cup Final!

Big news for music fans! Madonna, Shakira, and BTS are set to perform during the halftime of the World Cup final, as announced by Global Citizen on May 14. This exciting event will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It’s the first time the FIFA World Cup final will have a halftime show, and it will last about 11 minutes.

The announcement came with a fun video featuring Coldplay’s Chris Martin alongside beloved characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets. In a light-hearted twist, they even FaceTime BTS during the clip.

Shakira’s already linked to the World Cup with her new song “Dai Dai,” a collaboration with Burna Boy. This will be her second official World Cup song, following her hit “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” from the 2010 World Cup. She also begins her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour right before the final, with stops in New Jersey and New York.

Madonna is prepping for a busy month too. She’ll release her album Confessions II on July 3, which includes the single “Bring Your Love,” a duet with Sabrina Carpenter. The two recently performed it live at Coachella.

BTS recently returned to the music scene with their album ARIRANG, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. This was their first project since going on hiatus for military service. Currently, they’re on an international tour, performing across various cities.

The halftime show is part of a fundraising initiative by Global Citizen aimed at expanding education and football access for children worldwide. They hope to raise $100 million for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. So far, more than $30 million has been raised, partly through ticket sales for the tournament.

In addition to the halftime show, FIFA has announced that Katy Perry, Future, Tyla, LISA, and Anitta will perform during the World Cup opening ceremonies. Perry will headline the kickoff event in Los Angeles on June 12, just before the U.S. team plays against Paraguay.

This halftime show marks a new chapter for the World Cup. Interestingly, Madonna and Shakira have both performed at the Super Bowl, with Madonna headlining in 2012 and Shakira joining Jennifer Lopez in 2020. It’ll be exciting to see how they bring that energy to the World Cup stage!
