New Delhi, March 29 (ANI) – Two LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, are safely making their way to India with a total cargo of about 94,000 metric tonnes. The crew onboard celebrated their transit with chants like “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram,” expressing gratitude to the Indian Navy for their support.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that BW TYR is heading to Mumbai, expected to arrive on March 31, while BW ELM is on its way to New Mangalore, with an arrival forecasted for April 1.
The ministry also reassured that all Indian seafarers in the area are safe. There have been no reported incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels in the last 24 hours. Currently, there are 18 Indian-flagged ships with 485 crew members operating in the western Persian Gulf. The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) is keeping a close watch on the situation, coordinating with ship owners and Indian Missions.
The DG Shipping Control Room has been busy, handling over 4,500 calls and nearly 9,000 emails since its operations began, with 92 calls and 120 emails just in the last day. They’ve also facilitated the safe return of over 942 Indian seafarers.
In a related incident, a shipment of 47,000 metric tonnes of LPG arrived at the Vadinar Terminal in Gujarat. The vessel, MT Jag Vasant, will transfer its cargo to another ship through a Ship-to-Ship (STS) operation. The Indian Navy is on standby to assist.
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial shipping route, handling a large portion of the world’s oil. Security in this region is vital for global trade, especially amid ongoing tensions following recent military actions in the area.
India has stressed the importance of safe maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz. The government is staying alert to protect national interests while monitoring regional developments.
In recent discussions, officials emphasized the need to uphold international law and ensure safe navigation in these waters. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that India is working with global partners to maintain stability in West Asia.
