NEW ORLEANS – In this edition, let’s talk about some exciting local highlights! First up is Harlem Berry, a standout running back from St. Martin’s who is making waves in football.

Harlem is off to LSU, finishing as a 5-star recruit in the On3 rankings. Watching him play over the past four years has been a thrill—he’s truly electrifying on the field. What sets Harlem apart is that he chose to stay at St. Martin’s, a smaller Class 1A school. Even after his impressive freshman year, other larger schools tried to recruit him, but the Berry family decided to stick with their roots. This proves that talent can shine anywhere and big colleges will notice you, no matter the size of your school.
Next, let’s dive into soccer! The LHSAA playoffs kick off this weekend, and several New Orleans schools are in the running for the championship in Hammond. For the boys, Jesuit is undefeated and favored to win in Division I. Defending champion Willow and Holy Cross may clash in the Division II semifinals. Over in Division IV, Newman looks tough to beat.
On the girls’ side, Mt. Carmel is holding strong as the fourth seed in Division I, while St. Scholastica aims to defend their title in Division II. Three teams—Hannan, Ursuline, and Sacred Heart—are in the mix for Division III, and Newman is gunning for a third straight title in Division IV.
Now, let’s talk pizza! As a pizza lover, my favorites are always shifting, and a new contender has joined my top spots: Forbidden Pizza located on Baronne Street in the Central Business District. They just opened a couple of months ago and offer Brooklyn-style thin-crust pizza. You can sit outside or find a cozy spot indoors, and a bar area may be on the way.
During my visit, I tried several slices: one with prosciutto and burrata, another called “Italian Stallion” loaded with mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, and a third slice called “She Thicc,” featuring Detroit-style mozzarella and pepperoni. Each slice was a must-try!
This weekend promises to be full of thrilling sports action and tasty pizza adventures in New Orleans. It’s a great time to be part of this vibrant city!
