Tourist Family Movie Review

Cast: M. Sasikumar, Simran, Mithun Jai Sankar, Kamalesh
Director: Abishan Jeevinth
Rating: ★★★.5

“Tourist Family” is a new film by Abishan Jeevinth that tells a heartfelt story about a loving family facing tough times. It’s one of several recent films exploring family life, similar to “Kudumbasthan” and “Thiru.Manickam.” But this film has its own unique charm.

The story introduces us to Das (played by Sasikumar), his wife Vasanthi (Simran), and their two children, Nithushan and Mulli. They arrive in Rameswaram as illegal immigrants, fleeing from Sri Lanka. After a run-in with the local police, who show them some kindness, the family decides to start anew in Chennai.

In Chennai, they rent a home from a local police inspector, Raghavan. Das tries to build a stable life for his family by working as a driver. As they settle in, they connect with their neighbors, unaware that a bomb blast in Rameswaram has aroused suspicion towards them solely because of their background.

Director Abishan Jeevinth crafts a rich tapestry of neighborhood life. The film features various characters, each with their own stories, from a lonely elderly couple to a single man battling alcoholism. Each character adds depth to the story, illustrating the complexities of community life.

Sasikumar’s portrayal of Das is spot on. He embodies patience and kindness, becoming a pillar for the community during times of grief. Vasanthi, played by Simran, is also well-written; she’s more than just a mother or wife—her kindness resonates with everyone around her.

The children are charming, too. Mulli’s witty lines lighten up some heavy moments, showcasing Kamalesh’s talent. The chemistry between Simran and Sasikumar feels authentic, making their interactions enjoyable to watch.

“Tourist Family” goes beyond just one family’s struggle. It highlights the importance of community bonds, emphasizing that humanity transcends cultural backgrounds. It teaches a valuable lesson: love and understanding can overcome differences.

Despite its familiar themes, the film’s storytelling is fresh. It beautifully combines humor with serious moments, echoing the reality of life. Abishan Jeevinth delivers a message that loving one’s neighbor is paramount, reminding us that no matter our differences, we can always uplift each other.

In terms of social relevance, this film resonates in a world where community ties are often strained. A recent survey found that nearly 70% of people feel isolated compared to a decade ago. “Tourist Family” serves as a reminder that connection is essential, highlighting the joy in human togetherness amidst challenges.
