In Kenosha, Wisconsin, Grace People’s Pantry has been a crucial support system for over 200 families for more than eight years. This church-run food pantry provides food, clothing, and other essentials to those in need.
However, the pantry is now facing a serious threat. If they can’t secure more funding, they may have to close by March 15. This crisis is largely due to rising food prices and a growing number of families seeking help.
The challenges began when a lawsuit against a former employee raised concerns about missing funds from the pantry’s account. Without immediate financial help, this vital resource for the community could disappear, leaving many without support.
“We help around 250 individuals or families each week,” said Tanya McLean, a volunteer. “We desperately need assistance from our community.”

Volunteers are reaching out, hoping that local donors will step in to help. Charis Webb expressed the urgency: “If we can’t secure funds, it would be heartbreaking for our community. Over 600 people rely on us for food and support.”
Residents are coming together, but time is tight. Gary Sonberger shared, “I’ve met so many amazing people here. They truly need help.”
Every little bit helps as the pantry looks to raise the necessary funds to stay open. Community members can contribute online or visit in person to learn more about helping. This pantry is more than just a food source; it’s a lifeline for many families in Kenosha.
