Historic Struggles: Rockies Make MLB History by Losing 50 Games Before Securing 10 Wins

It’s been a tough season for the Colorado Rockies, and it’s making history—not the good kind. They faced the New York Mets recently and lost again, marking their eighth straight loss. With a record of 9-50, the Rockies have become the first team in modern MLB history to lose 50 games before winning 10.

This season has been rough from the start. The Rockies have only managed to win consecutive games once, back in late April. In contrast, they’ve faced four eight-game losing streaks already this year, a stark increase compared to just two such streaks over the past five seasons.

The numbers are eye-popping. At their current win rate of .153, they are on track to finish with 24 wins and 138 losses, which would be the second-worst record ever in the league and the worst in modern history.

Despite playing at Coors Field, known for its hitter-friendly environment, the Rockies’ offense is struggling. They have recorded only 50 home runs this season, placing them fourth from the bottom in the league. Their batting average of .215 is the worst in MLB. They’re also sitting at the bottom for runs batted in (RBI), with only 182.

Pitching hasn’t been much better. The Rockies have a team ERA of 5.59, slightly better than the Oakland Athletics’ 5.68. They’ve allowed the most runs overall and have given up the sixth-most home runs, while also recording the fewest strikeouts.

However, there’s a glimmer of hope. Experts like Joel Reuter from Bleacher Report note that Colorado has one of the stronger farm systems, ranking ninth overall. Talents like pitcher Chase Dollander and outfielder Charlie Condon could potentially help reshape the team in the coming years.

While this future potential might provide a bit of optimism, it doesn’t erase the sting of this historically bad start for Rockies fans. It’s a long road ahead, but the hope is that brighter days are on the horizon.
