LYNN HAVEN, Fla. — On a peaceful street in Bay County, a simple wooden box is making a big difference.
Alycia Quesenberry started a little food pantry in her front yard, inspired by her sister in New Hampshire. This pantry is open to everyone—people can take what they need or leave donations.
Alycia wanted to show her young daughter the importance of giving back. “I wanted to demonstrate how you can positively influence a neighborhood,” she said. “Before it was here, people didn’t realize how many needed help.”
Before launching the pantry, Alycia reached out to a local Facebook group to gauge interest. The responses poured in. “A few days later, it took off. We were getting donations from Publix, and the boxes were piling up at our door,” she shared.
The pantry has been especially busy during the holidays. “With Thanksgiving, we were adding fresh vegetables. Neighbors even brought stuffing. It went fast, and I hope we see the same for Christmas,” Alycia remarked.
She plans to keep the pantry open all year. “We’ll weatherproof it, but it’s here to stay,” she said.
