How Death Stranding’s Photo Mode Bypasses Reddit and Discord’s UK Age Verification: A Surprising Twist!

The UK’s new online safety rules kicked in recently, requiring various platforms to implement age verification tools for users. While many thought these checks would secure the online space, it turns out they’re relatively easy to bypass. Notably, gamers have discovered a clever way using the photo mode in the game Death Stranding.

This tactic gained traction thanks to Dany Sterkhov, who shared on social media how he tricked face scanning systems by holding his phone to the screen while using the game’s character, Sam Bridges. The process is simple: activate the game’s photo mode, point your camera, and let Sam gaze into the lens.

I gave it a try myself. On Discord, the face verification tool, called k-ID, asked me to make Sam’s mouth move. On Reddit, the system, known as Persona, had me shift Sam’s head around. Both checks took seconds and were surprisingly easy to pass.

I attempted to bypass Bluesky’s age check with Sam, but it didn’t work, as Bluesky employs Yoti, which claims to be more robust. Yoti is also set to work with Instagram to help determine if users are over 18.

This method doesn’t just help adults verify their age without giving up personal information; it also avoids the hassle and cost of VPN services. As long as a site uses a susceptible face-scanning tool, you can navigate access easily.
