How Jeremy Miller’s ‘Growing Pains’ Co-Stars Saved Him from Homelessness During a Tough Time

Jeremy Miller, known for his role as Ben Seaver on Growing Pains, recently opened up about some tough times in his life. In a heartfelt interview with Scott Austalosh from Youngstown Studio, he shared his battles with addiction and financial trouble.

After the 2008 financial crisis, Miller faced a dire situation. He revealed, “I was on the brink of homelessness.” His catering business had failed, leaving him struggling. Thankfully, his former co-stars, Alan Thicke and Kirk Cameron, stepped in to help.

Miller shared how Alan reached out to his connections in the restaurant industry. “I just had to make one call,” he recalled. “Within days, Alan was making connections for me.” His story highlights an important aspect of friendship: always being there for one another.

Alan Thicke, who passed away in 2016, is remembered fondly by Miller. He described him as “one of the most caring, generous, and loving men.” Thicke not only made people laugh on set but also took the time to check in on Miller through the years. Miller said, “He really did fill that father role. He was my other dad.”

In recent years, mental health issues and addiction have gained more visibility. A survey from the National Institute on Drug Abuse found that about 21% of people who use opioids become addicted. This underscores the importance of support systems, like the one Miller had, to get through tough times.

Despite his struggles, Miller remains active in the entertainment world and still participates in conventions. He even offers private cooking classes, sharing his culinary skills gained from years in the profession.

Jeremy’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience, friendship, and finding help when you need it. You can listen to the full interview on the Youngstown Studio podcast.
