Since 2003, Tabby’s Place has been a haven for cats in need, especially those with chronic health issues. The staff and volunteers are dedicated to providing a loving, cage-free environment. Foster team lead Tiana Thomas noticed a growing issue: many families were surrendering their pets due to financial pressures. “We wanted to help keep pets in their homes,” she said, which led to the creation of Perry’s Pantry.
The pantry honors both Perry, a former Tabby’s Place resident, and Kavita Gupta, a beloved volunteer who passed away in 2025 after a long battle with depression. Thomas shared that they named it to keep Gupta’s legacy alive while supporting the community.
At Perry’s Pantry, anyone can drive up and take what they need. The pantry stocks essentials like both wet and dry food for cats and dogs, carriers, health and enrichment supplies, and even furniture. “It’s all free, and there’s no limit,” Thomas explained.
Studies show that pet ownership can have numerous mental health benefits, especially during tough times. In the U.S., pet ownership has increased significantly, with nearly 70% of households owning a pet as of 2021, according to the American Pet Products Association. This makes community support initiatives like Perry’s Pantry essential for many families.
Since its opening, Perry’s Pantry has been warmly received by the community. Social media posts highlight the pantry’s impact, with families expressing gratitude for its existence. Many have shared their stories of how having access to free supplies has helped them keep their pets at home, strengthening the emotional bonds they cherish.
