According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall affects approximately 1,080 pounds of “Kitten Mix” and 1,380 pounds of “Puppy Mix.” These products were sold in two-pound logs and were packaged in clear plastic. The lot numbers to check for are N26 0114 for Kitten Mix and N25 1230 for Puppy Mix. If you’ve bought these, you’ll find the lot numbers on the clips at the end of the packaging.

The affected products were distributed mainly in eight states: Wisconsin, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Tennessee. They were sold between January 3 and January 24.

Handling contaminated pet food without proper hygiene can lead to infections. Symptoms in people can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. In more severe cases, it could result in complications like infections in the bloodstream and urinary tract problems. Pets can also experience serious health issues, such as lethargy, vomiting, or loss of appetite. Some pets may carry the bacteria without showing symptoms, increasing the risk of spreading it.

Experts emphasize the importance of washing hands and sanitizing pet food bowls after handling any recalled products. If you or your pet exhibit any signs of illness, reach out to a healthcare professional or veterinarian promptly.

According to a 2022 CDC report, foodborne illnesses result in over 48 million cases of illness and thousands of deaths each year in the U.S. This statistic underscores the importance of food safety, especially for products intended for our pets.
