Fast forward to now—Apple is set to end support for the old version of this platform. If you haven’t updated, you might lose access to your Home features. Initially, the cutoff was in fall 2025, but it has since been pushed to February 10, 2026.
Apple is sending reminder emails to users who still haven’t upgraded. The message is clear: if you don’t make the switch, you could lose access to essential features and security updates. Upgrading opens the door to new functionalities like guest access and Activity History.
You can easily update by going into the Software Update section of Home Settings in the app. If you’ve already upgraded, it will let you know that your system is up to date.
Keep in mind, Apple’s new version requires a minimum of iOS 16.2 or its equivalents on other devices. Many users are hesitant to upgrade, especially if they rely on older devices for home control. This apprehension is causing a bit of a stir among the community.
