IND vs NZ: India Breaks 12-Year Drought to Claim Historic Third Champions Trophy Title!

Dubai: The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, won their third Champions Trophy title in a thrilling final against New Zealand on March 9 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This victory marked India’s first Champions Trophy win since 2013, breaking a 12-year drought. The team’s success was a result of a strong collective effort from the batting squad.

India previously won the Champions Trophy in 2002 under Sourav Ganguly and again in 2013 with MS Dhoni at the helm. With this latest win, Rohit Sharma became only the second Indian captain to secure two ICC trophies, following in Dhoni’s footsteps.

Chasing a target of 252, India got off to a great start with an opening partnership of 105 runs between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Gill scored 31 runs before being dismissed by Mitchell Santner. Despite some setbacks, including Rohit’s score of 76, the lower-order batsmen stepped up. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya played pivotal roles in steering the team towards victory. Although Hardik fell short of the finish line, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul sealed the win together.

New Zealand, who won the toss and elected to bat, started strong with a 57-run partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Will Young. However, they soon faced a batting collapse as India’s spinners took control. Daryl Mitchell was the standout for New Zealand with 63 runs, while Michael Bracewell added a quickfire 53 runs to help them reach a total of 251/7.

This victory is a significant milestone for Indian cricket, showcasing resilience and teamwork as they celebrated yet another championship triumph.
