India Shines at Asian Athletics: 24 Medals Earned, Silver Triumphs for Sachin, Parul, and Women’s Relay Team!

Gumi, South Korea: India wrapped up a thrilling campaign at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships with a total of 24 medals. Although no gold medals were secured on the final day, athletes put forth impressive performances, earning three silver and three bronze medals.

Parul Chaudhary shone brightly, securing her second silver in the women’s 5000m with a time of 15:15.33, following her earlier silver in the 3000m steeplechase. Javelin thrower Sachin Yadav also made headlines with a personal best, taking home silver. The women’s 4x100m relay team clocked a season-best of 43.86 seconds, adding another silver to India’s collection.

Animesh Kujur set a national record in the men’s 200m, clinching bronze with a remarkable 20.32 seconds. Pooja also had a great run in the women’s 800m, finishing with a personal best for another bronze. Vithya Ramraj, an Asian Games medallist, added to the medal tally with a bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles.

In total, India secured 8 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze medals. While this was fewer medals than the 27 won in the previous championships, the increase in gold from 6 to 8 highlights the improvement in the team’s performance.

India finished second in the overall medal standings, trailing behind China, which earned 19 gold medals. This performance was India’s best since 2017, when they topped the medal tally in Bhubaneswar.

Sachin Yadav competed in a highly competitive javelin event, finishing with a personal best of 85.16m, just shy of the World Championships qualifying mark. The gold medal went to Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, who threw 86.40m.

The championships were also notable for their historical context. The last time India had a significant breakthrough in the men’s 200m event was in 2015, when Dharambir Singh won bronze. Kujur’s achievement ends a lengthy medal drought in this category and reflects the growing strength of Indian sprinters on an international level.
