On March 5, Special Olympics Bharat held an inspiring send-off for a team of 49 members, including 30 athletes and 19 support staff. They are set to represent India at the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 in Turin, Italy.

The ceremony featured prominent figures, including Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Mallika Nadda, the President of Special Olympics Bharat. Mandaviya praised the athletes, saying, “You embody determination, resilience, and excellence. Your hard work inspires us all.” He encouraged them to “fly the tricolor high” and assured them of the nation’s full support.
The World Winter Games will be held from March 8 to 15, with athletes from Team India competing in six sports: Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Floorball, Short-track Speed Skating, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing. Over 1,500 athletes from 102 countries will participate, making this a truly global event.
During the event, the athletes received warm wishes and encouragement from the dignitaries. They were honored with garlands and traditional Himachali woolen caps as tokens of good luck. Mallika Nadda highlighted the athletes’ journeys, reflecting on the challenges they overcame to reach this level. She urged them to remember their inner strength and resilience.
This event not only marks a significant milestone for the athletes but also showcases the spirit of sportsmanship and unity that characterizes the Special Olympics. The anticipation for the upcoming games is buzzing as the nation eagerly awaits the athletes’ performance on the world stage.
