WHEELING — Wheeling Health Right is excited for its upcoming 29th Annual Chefs’ Auction, celebrating the organization’s 40th Anniversary. This lively event will take place on Thursday, May 8, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at WesBanco Arena. All the funds raised will support Wheeling Health Right, a vital resource that offers medical and dental care to those without insurance in the Ohio Valley.
The theme for this year’s auction is “Wicked for Good,” inspired by the musical “Wicked.” Sixteen local restaurants and caterers will create dishes that fit this fun theme. Anne Ricci, the organization’s Director of Marketing, shared that Chef Rocco Basil proposed the theme, linking it to the ruby slippers from the classic “Wizard of Oz.” The playfulness of the theme encapsulates the spirit of Wheeling Health Right, dedicated to working “for good.”
This year’s auction is particularly special, honoring longtime Executive Director Kathie Brown, who has spent 34 years with the organization. She recalls the event’s humble beginnings and how far it has come since its start at the Georgian Center. Last year, the auction raised an impressive $90,000, and Brown hopes this year will exceed the $100,000 mark before her retirement in June.
A diverse lineup of chefs will showcase their talents. Restaurants participating include Elmhurst House of Friendship, Generations Pub & Restaurant, and the Chefs from Oglebay Resort, among others. Bobbie and Jake Linaweaver from The Jakery are preparing themed cookies for the occasion, while Figaretti’s Restaurant will serve up classic Italian dishes and offer gift baskets.
The Chefs’ Auction includes a live auction, raffles, and engaging activities like a wine and liquor pull. Guests can bid on exciting items, including a signed Taylor Swift album and a Tuscan getaway for 12. Local entertainers will also add to the atmosphere, with live music and caricature artists present.
With a ticket price of $125 per person, this event is not just a chance to enjoy great food but also a way to support essential health services in the community. For tickets or more information, you can visit Wheeling Health Right’s official website.
Events like this highlight the power of community support. According to a recent survey by the National Philanthropic Trust, charitable giving increased by 4.1% in 2022, showing a continued commitment to helping those in need. This spirit of generosity is vital, especially for organizations like Wheeling Health Right that work tirelessly to provide health care access to underserved populations.
In conclusion, the Chefs’ Auction promises a memorable evening filled with great food and fun, all while making a significant impact in the community.
