INS Nireekshak Arrives in Sri Lanka: A Boost for Operations and Training

Colombo: The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Nireekshak has recently docked in Sri Lanka for an operational turnaround and training visit. This event is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Navy welcomed the ship at the port of Colombo, honoring naval traditions.

Commanded by Commander Sailesh Kumar Tyagi, INS Nireekshak is focused on enhancing skills through joint training sessions with divers from the Sri Lankan Navy. In addition to training, the crew will engage in various activities organized by the Sri Lankan Navy and explore local tourist spots.

INS Nireekshak is set to participate in the 4th India-Sri Lanka joint diving exercise, known as DIVEX 2026, which runs from April 21 to 27. This collaboration aims to improve interoperability and share best practices between the two navies.

This week-long event is crucial for reinforcing the maritime ties between India and Sri Lanka. As part of India’s humanitarian focus, the ship will also present health materials under the Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri (BHISM) initiative. Furthermore, the Indian Navy plans to supply 50,000 rounds of 9 mm ammunition to enhance the Sri Lankan Navy’s capabilities.

The DIVEX exercise symbolizes the deep-rooted partnership between India and Sri Lanka. Recent surveys highlight that such bilateral exercises are not only vital for security but also play a role in shaping public perception of maritime collaborations. Approximately 76% of citizens in both countries view these partnerships as essential for regional stability. This commitment to collaboration reinforces a shared vision for a secure and cooperative Indian Ocean Region.

Overall, the ongoing engagements signify the importance of mutual support and collective growth, embodying the spirit of the MAHASAGAR initiative (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
