Intel’s Core Ultra 200S desktop chips, known as “Arrow Lake,” made a notable debut in late 2024, marking a significant shift in Intel’s processor lineup. While these chips promise power efficiency and cooler operation compared to their older counterparts, they sometimes lag behind in gaming performance. Gamers have often turned to AMD’s Ryzen 7000 and 9000-series X3D processors, which excel thanks to their additional L3 cache.
Intel is not resting on its achievements. Although there’s no next-generation desktop chip yet, the company is enhancing its offerings with the Core Ultra 200S Plus series. These upgraded processors, also called Arrow Lake Refresh, introduce more cores, faster clock speeds, and improved memory support. Intel claims these upgrades can enhance gaming performance by about 15%.
To break things down, the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and 270KF Plus models now feature four additional efficiency cores compared to the previous Core Ultra 7 265K, totaling 24 cores (8 performance and 16 efficiency). For those eyeing the Core Ultra 5 series, the 250K Plus and 250KF Plus models similarly gain four extra efficiency cores, resulting in 6 performance cores and 12 efficiency cores.
Recent surveys indicate that gamers are increasingly interested in multi-core processors, as various gaming tasks demand more resources. This trend aligns with expert opinions highlighting that multi-core designs can dramatically improve frame rates and overall gaming experiences.
In 2022, a report from Statista showed that about 68% of gamers prioritize CPU performance when building or upgrading their PCs. This statistic underscores the importance of Intel’s innovations in maintaining competitive edge against AMD.
