AMES, Iowa – Head coach Jimmy Rogers has announced the new special teams coaching staff for Iowa State.
Rob Grande steps in as the special teams coordinator, marking his seventh season with the Cyclones. Grande has been instrumental in developing the team’s special teams since he joined. Under his leadership last season, the group earned five Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week awards. Kicker Kyle Konrardy and return man Aiden Flora both contributed significantly and will return this year. Punter Tyler Perkins gained recognition as a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, showcasing not only his skill but also the quality of training under Grande.
Ron Pavlik joins as an assistant, bringing experience from his time with Coach Rogers at Washington State and South Dakota State. During their time together, Pavlik helped achieve impressive results, including a national ranking of sixth for punt returns. The squad excelled in kick return defense too, placing in the top 40 nationally.
Jacob Studdard also steps in as an assistant after three seasons at Grand Valley State. His experience includes leading the special teams and running backs, along with playoff appearances in NCAA Division II. Studdard’s playing background at Grand Valley State shows his deep understanding of the game.
As college football continues to evolve, the importance of strong special teams can’t be overlooked. Recent studies show that teams with effective special teams units have a higher chance of winning games. According to a report by the NCAA, about 20% of points scored come from special teams plays. This highlights the strategic value of Grande, Pavlik, and Studdard as they work to enhance Iowa State’s performance in the upcoming season.
Fans are excited about the changes. Social media is buzzing with optimism, especially after hearing about the staff’s impressive track records. It’s clear that the Cyclones are focused on creating a competitive edge.
