Amazon Game Studios has announced that their MMORPG, New World, will stop receiving content updates after just four years. This news comes following their plans to lay off thousands of employees. On October 28, the studio confirmed on their official website that the recently launched season 10 and Nighthaven update will be the last for the game. They noted that supporting New World with new content is no longer sustainable.

The last major update, Nighthaven, is now free for all PC players, along with the required expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth.

“Dear players of Aeternum, your dedication has made this adventure unforgettable,” the developers shared. They expressed gratitude for the community’s support, saying it has been an honor to create this world together.

It’s important to note that New World isn’t shutting down right away. Even after the final content update, players can still enjoy the game normally. Server operations will continue through 2026, allowing time for players to explore Aeternum. Amazon promises to provide updates about the game’s future and will give at least six months’ notice before any server shutdown.

While the game isn’t dead yet, its decline has been evident. When it launched in October 2021, New World boasted over 900,000 players on Steam. However, by March 2022, that number dropped to around 30,000. Although Amazon made efforts to revitalize the game through updates and expansions, player interest has declined.
