A lawsuit against Jay-Z has been voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff. This case had accused him of rape.

Legal documents obtained by *Entertainment Weekly* show that the plaintiff, referred to as Jane Doe, decided to drop the lawsuit on Friday. She had alleged that Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, raped a 13-year-old girl at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000, alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs. The lawsuit was first filed in October, and Carter’s name was included in December. Both Jay-Z and Combs denied the allegations.
In a statement to *Entertainment Weekly*, Jay-Z declared the dismissal a victory. He stated, “The frivolous and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was never going anywhere.” He expressed sympathy for anyone who might have to endure a similar experience and mentioned the emotional toll it took on his family.
Jay-Z’s statement criticized the plaintiff’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, saying that he benefits from anonymity while making claims that lack merit. He emphasized the need for courts to protect both victims and the innocent from unfounded accusations.
Similarly, Combs’ attorneys released a statement saying the dismissal confirmed that the lawsuits are based on falsehoods rather than facts. They claimed that Combs has never sexually assaulted anyone and vowed to continue fighting against what they described as baseless claims.
According to recent reports, the plaintiff acknowledged inconsistencies in her recollection of the incident during an interview with *NBC News* in December. She encouraged others to advocate for themselves and not let past traumas dictate their lives. However, discrepancies surfaced when she claimed her father picked her up after the incident, but he didn’t remember it. Representatives for Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden also confirmed he was not present at the event.
While this particular lawsuit has been dropped, Combs still faces several legal troubles. He was arrested in September on charges related to sex trafficking and has pleaded not guilty. These developments follow other civil lawsuits and federal investigations into his conduct.
