Join the 5K Walk to Support Mammogram Screenings and Save Lives!

A local nonprofit is gearing up for a meaningful event this Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Elizabeth House Foundation will host its fourth annual 5K Walk for Pink on October 18 at Kirk’s Farm Park, located at 210 E Mallard Creek Church Road. This walk aims to raise funds to provide free mobile mammograms and essential diagnostic screenings for uninsured women.

This year’s focus is on helping more women access screening and follow-up care they often miss due to financial constraints. “We walk for every woman who has skipped a screening because of cost or lack of insurance,” says Brandy Sims, the foundation’s founder. She emphasizes that this event is about saving lives and empowering communities, inspired by her late mother’s struggle with cancer.

Over the past three years, the Walk for Pink has united more than 150 participants to support free breast health services. The event doesn’t just raise funds; it fosters connections among survivors, healthcare providers, and supporters. This year, they hope to expand their outreach even further.

Statistics show that breast cancer affects about 1 in 8 women in the U.S. As reported by the American Cancer Society, early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes. Events like this are critical in addressing healthcare disparities, especially for underserved populations.

Participants are encouraged to wear pink, walk in memory of loved ones, and contribute in any way they can, whether by fundraising or simply attending to show support. On-site, there will be live music, local vendors, wellness resources, and exciting giveaways to enhance the experience.
