Kansas State, finishing the season at 6-6, also weighed their options carefully. Athletic director Gene Taylor noted a need for clarity with the upcoming coaching transitions, deciding it would be better not to participate in a bowl game this year.
Their decisions have raised eyebrows and led the Big 12 Conference to announce fines for the schools involved, stating that fulfilling bowl obligations is part of their responsibilities.
